Marsala, an earthy-muted-reddish shade that hits somewhere between wine red and Terracotta, was announced as the colour of the year for 2015 by Pantone. There was an immense hue and cry along with frantic uncertainty among the home-fanatics which, we’d say, was expected and a cinch. A bold colour like Marsala wasn’t an easy colour to incorporate in houses owing to its bold and dauntless attributes.
Here’s what Pantone had to say about the color:
“Sensual and bold, delicious Marsala is a daringly inviting tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.”
There was crazy experimentation with the colour and turns out it wasn’t half as bad as the idea sounded. The kind of ways in which Marsala can make an appearance into your houses keeping its sultry appeal intact are subtle and mingles well with amber, umber and golden yellows, greens in both turquoise and teal, and blues in the more vibrant range. Have a look at some ways you can bring Marsala home.
1) Throw pillows and cushions.
With a neutral backdrop, earthy tones and light shades, Marsala cushions and pillows add a touch of class and glamour to the setting. One may go for sequined, textured and striking prints to render a festive feel to their space.
2) Wallpapers & Tapestries
Walls in bold colours is not everyone’s cup of tea. Although, if one is daring enough, they could go for intricately designed Marsala shaded wallpapers and tapestries. We believe they look beautiful and we’d definitely give those tapestries a try!
3) Chairs and Sofas.
Modern, elegant, cozy — Marsala magnifies all of these qualities without trying too hard. Selecting a sofa in dark, mural shade like this one could seem like a tough, conflicting choice but it definitely imparts a royal feel to any space. With a mix of a lot of oranges and blues along with accents of brass and copper, one could easily render a classy and stylish vibe to a living room.
This could be a bit of a tricky choice to settle for because curtains hold the power to make it or break it when it comes to a balanced and modish home decor. We’d say — go for it! It is a tried and tested magic trick that looks oh so good! Satin or silk fabric enhances the appeal of this colour.
5) Patterned rugs and carpets.
Nobody can deny the ethereal impact that rugs and carpets impart to any space. Bold colours and chic patterns like Aztec and ones from Mexico, Turkey and India embossed over these rugs and carpets looks like an incredible way to incorporate Marsala into the home decor.
6) Accented baths.
Contrary to popular belief, bold walls and distinctively shaded bath accessories work really well in washrooms of all shapes and sizes. The contrast between white accessories and mute-y earthy red like Marsala looks impeccable.
